Graduate Program in Genetics and Molecular Biology
We are very glad with your interest in our Graduate Program. We welcome students from all over the world interested in any of our research areas, such as genomics, metabolomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, microbial genetics, virology, neuroscience, immunology, evolutionary and population genetics.
Dates: Admissions are allowed twice a year. The first enrollment process starts usually at the end of the first semester (usually in June, with classes starting in August) and at the end of the second semester (usually in September, with classes starting in March of the next year). These dates may vary and you are requested to check regularly the PPG-GBM webpage.

Registration enrolment
Candidates must provide the following documents to participate in the admission process:
1. Registration form in the SIGA module. This online form will be available during the registration period. It is in Portuguese and your supervisor will be able to help you. In this form you must state who will be your advisor and he/she should send an email to genetica@unicamp.br stating his agreement in supervising you (a list of authorized supervisors can be found here). Printed and signed SIGA forms should be sent to the secretary of the GP-GMB.
2. Curriculum Vitae according to the Lattes platform, a resumed scorecard, and a checking copy of all titles and scientific production.
3. Copy of Transcript of undergraduate and master records (for Ph.D. candidates, only);
4. One 3x4 cm recent photo;
5. Copy of I.D. or passport;
6. Copy of CPF (optional for foreigners that had not received it yet from Brazilian authorities);
7. Copy of Birth Certificate or Marriage certificate;
8. Copy of diploma or certificate of completion of College degree, or a statement of University Completion forecast.
9. Copy of English proficiency certificate for those who want to be excused from the English exam. In this case, a copy of the certificate of proficiency should be sent to genetica@unicamp.br.
Once registered, the admission in the GPPG-GMB can be done in the following ways:
1. Complete exam: An exam is applied usually in November and it comprises of:
- English exam (Native English speakers do not need to do this exam);
- Analysis of the Curriculum vitae, and
- Written tests. Follow this link for more information
2. Partial exam: Candidates with the following profiles will be admitted in the PG-GMB:
I) Candidates with a Master degree in a Graduate Program with grade 5 or higher (according to the CAPES evaluation), and with an article published/ accepted or sent for publication in a scientific journal graded at least Qualis B2 (see www.capes.gov.br). In this case, the applicant must submit the documents mentioned above (see registration enrolment), plus:
- Recommendation letter of the supervisor in charge;
- A copy of the published article or manuscript submitted for publication (with proof of submission).
The candidate also has to send an e-mail to genetica@unicamp.br, informing that he/she will not take the exam with questions.
Important: Students with this mode of application will not receive fellowships from the PG-GMB. This rule does not apply for those candidates that had their Master degree in the PG-GMB.
II. Candidates with a granted fellowship. In this case, fellowships must last 24 months (Master degree) or 48 months (Ph.D. degree). Documents certifying the grant must be sent until Feb/25. The supervisor must send a letter to the secretary of the GP-GMB, informing that the candidate has a granted fellowship. The final approval of the candidate application will be subjected to a positive evaluation by the Committee of the Graduate Program in Genetics and Molecular Biology, considering the candidate´s Curriculum vitae.
