We work with 3 main research topics in the Field of parasitic diseases caused by helmintic parasites (emphasis on Schistosoma mansoni, Strongyloides stercoralis e Angiostrongylus cantonensis and their vectors):
-Research of new drugs for treatment of helminthiasis;
-Study of wild and domestic animals parasitic diseases;
-Proteomic studies of helminthes and/or their vectors.

My main interest in basic research is focused on understanding the mechanisms that allow Leishmania to survive in the intracellular environment. In our Lab, we also study the efficacy of several compounds aiming at the discovery of novel/repurposed drugs for leishmaniasis treatment.

The Laboratory of Reproductive Biology has studied the prostatic microenvironmental changes such as proliferative lesions associated or not with the aging process. The prostatic stroma dynamics as well as the stroma-epithelium interaction have also been the focus of our research, due to the main roles of these glandular compartments in the development and progression of the prostatic lesions associated with inflammation; angiogenesis; and oxidative stress.
