COURSES
The program’s courses are varied, including basic and applied, theoretical, and practical courses and seminars which are taught either throughout the semester or are condensed in the different research areas.

Do I have to be a regular enrolled student to take a course?
Not necessarily. You can take a course as a special student, but this will depend on the prerequisites determined by the course coordinator.

What is the number of courses (credits) I need to take in the program?

The number of credits to be completed by a Masters or PhD student in the Graduate Program on Genetics and Molecular Biology is dictated by the Graduate Catalogue to which the student is linked. The graduate catalogues are published annually by the Academic Directory (DAC) that discloses them on their webpage. The Masters course can be finished in a minimum of 12 months and a maximum of 36 months. To obtain a Masters degree in Genetics and Molecular Biology, the student must fulfill a total of 16 credits, all elective. The PhD course can be finished in a minimum of 24 months and a maximum of 54 months. To obtain a PhD degree in Genetics and Molecular Biology, the student must fulfill a total of 12 elective credits.

What are the courses offered?
Courses are offered according to the criteria established by the Program and its professors. Each semester, a selection of specific courses from the Program, as well as a set of courses from the graduate program of the Institute of Biology (some can be taken by the students from the Graduate Program on Genetics and Molecular Biology to fulfill the credit workload) are open for student enrollment. Find below the list of courses currently offered by the Program. An update of the courses to be offered the next academic semester is done every semester, so the student can schedule its own enrollment and activities, considering in advance the courses they are interested in.
