Selection Process

Entrance Exam
The Entrance Exam is usually offered twice a year (July and November) and the rules and regulations are disclosed through an Open Call at least 2 months in advance. Specific rules can vary from year to year, due to the interests of the university and the program, so we ask that students applying for a spot in the Program read the corresponding call carefully. For the students who applied for 2017, the entrance exam consisted of a knowledge test in the areas of the Program (to write off and rank), evaluation of the candidate’s curriculum by a doctorate committee and a foreign language test (to write off). Applicants wishing to apply for institutional fellowships (provided by the Program and linked to CAPES or CNPq) must mandatorily take the knowledge test according to the Call.

Do I have to go to Campinas City to take the exam?

Not necessarily. Depending on home location, the student will be dismissed from being present and taking the exam in Campinas. In these exceptional cases, we will send the exam to a Teaching and/or Research Institute near the student's residence and they will offer the exam.

Do I really have to take the general knowledge exam?

Not necessarily. The students that when enrolling already posses an approved fellowship given by another public or private funding agency may be exempted from taking the exam. If you belong to this category, check your options with your future supervisor.

Do I have to take the exam in Portuguese?

For foreign candidates, it is possible to take the exam in Spanish or English. The option of taking the test in another language must be checked during enrolling, according to the information disclosed on the Call.

I am not a Brazilian citizen, what should I do?

The Institute of Biology has an international relations office (CAIn-IB; +55 19 3521-1439 internationalofficeib@unicamp.br) and its mission is to guide foreign students and professors who wish to come to Brazil.
