Prospective students: how to apply

The selective process of new Master and Doctoral candidates occurs once a year and it is regulated by this administrative act.

The selective process of new Master and PhD candidates is announced in this website with, at least, 30 days in advance.

 

Requirements for applying for the Master program:

 

Undergraduate course diploma or a statement of conclusion of an undergraduate course in the current year

Potential adviser acceptance form

Score a minimum of 70% in the selective process

Steps of the selective process: written test (50%), English proficiency test (10%), CV and academic record (20%) and interview (20%)

The written test will consider general knowledge on plant biology (anatomy, ecology, physiology, genetics and systematics). The candidate must answer 10 of 15 available questions (3 from each area). The answers may be in English, Spanish or Portuguese.

The lowest possible score for the written test is 50%.

The English proficiency test evaluates the reading comprehension of a scientific text. The lowest possible score is 70%. Native speakers and candidates that already have a certificate of English proficiency are exempt.

The interview is performed by your potential advisor.

There are no requirements for foreign students with scholarships. You may contact your potential advisor and the program committee for more information on enrollment documents.

 

Requirements for applying for the Doctoral program (foreign students):

 

Undergraduate course diploma or a statement of conclusion of an undergraduate course in the current year

Master certificate or a statement of conclusion of a Master´s degree in the current year (optional - please consult the Program Committee with you do not have a Master certificate)

Score a minimum of 70% in the selective process

Steps of the selective process: written test (40%), English proficiency test (10%), CV and academic record (30%) and interview (20%)

The written test will consider one of the 5 areas within plant biology: anatomy, ecology, physiology, genetics and systematics. The candidate will choose one area and may answer 5 of 6 available questions. The answers may be in English, Spanish or Portuguese.
